We joined thousands of others in London today, marching for clean water - @marchforwater - for an end to the privatisation of the fundamental element of all life, and for the respect and love of the rivers, seas, lakes and streams of the world and all the beings they support, including us. We added some water from the Channelsea to the Living Well of waters bought from all corners of the UK, and took away a vile of the water mix to remember our interconnections. Thanks to @riveractionuk for organising. Great to join the #riverrights group and walk with friends 💙💙💙

It’s the eco gathering this Saturday! As well as the usual tending to the space, we’ll also be making banners for Sunday’s @marchforwater in central London - we’d love you to join us! Eco Gathering on Saturday from 11-1pm - bring paints, pens and cardboard! And on Sunday we’ll be marching with the #riverrights network, joining river guardians from around the UK to walk for an end to the destruction of the UK’s waterways. Join us! Last month at the eco gathering we finished the toilet off with a green roof, using soil, sand and turf from around the site we’ll see if the wild garlic will take, and what wildflowers will pop up from the seeds we sowed and the natural seed bank of the air. Dominic and Mohammed did a meticulous sort of all the rubbish which Mohammed took to recycle, and Gregory mulched all the apples with comfrey. The shapes of the trees are really starting to show now after a good prune last year. Next Eco gathering is next Saturday 2nd November, more details soon!

Our monthly eco gathering is coming up this Saturday, 11 - 1pm at the Long Wall Ecology Garden. We’re excited to be finishing the green roof for the compost toilet! So come and join us for that, and for some autumn maintenance - pruning hawthorns, continuing litter picking, checking over the apple trees, bark chipping and weeding, and as always chatting about plans for the space over tea and cake. Lovely eco gathering last Saturday! Cleared lots of rubbish, tended the trees, swapped foraging tips and recipes and spotted these mushrooms in the wood chip pile - we identified them as the ‘Wrinkled Fieldcap’ - a fairly new mushroom to be identified in Britain, first recorded in 2003, so not enough brave foragers have tried it yet to know whether it’s edible or not! 🍄❣️🍄

Our monthly eco gathering is back this September! The early edges of autumn are beginning to show, a beautiful time to be out and about observing the beginnings of change in the plants, insects and birds, beautiful seed heads to be studied, grasshoppers still chirruping in the dry grasses, leave ms just beginning to yellow on the watery willows, hawthorns and rosehips beginning to ripen… come and join us for the usual nourishing mix of tree care, chat, litter hunting, bramble clearing, pruning and more!

Thinking back to a sunny day when we were joined by @rangerskindy_ group for a tree care day at the Long Wall Ecology Garden, continuing their @childrensforest.earth project on the land by the river. We watered the new trees, weeded and litter picked, made butterflies and bees and enjoyed using the new compost toilet, brightening it up with some fresh wildflowers 🌻💦🍎

This is our beautiful new eco gathering poster by Paul Nelson , that has come about through common ground and mutual support fertilised by the ‘New School of the Anthropocene’ @nsotagram ❣️ This colour combination is for summer, there is a different one for each season. So we are inviting you to join us once again this Saturday from 11-1pm at the Long Wall Ecology Garden on the banks of the Channelsea river. We’ll be pruning, watering, chatting, pennywort gathering. Join us for a day of conservation work on the Channelsea river and at the Long Wall Ecology garden! Link to sign up in the bio.

We’ll start the day with a deep listening session, grounding into the space, tuning in to the sounds of the riverscape, and awakening our senses to some of the species that make their home there.
💦💦💦
We’ll be using our floating pontoon to get out onto the water to gather any early blooms of pennywort before they start to grow, a vigorous species that populates the water’s surface blocking out light and oxygen for other species.
🌿🌿🌿
We’ll be pulling it out of the water and into the compost bins on land, ready to break down and become food for the apple trees.
💦💦💦
There’ll be jobs on land too, cutting back bramble and buddleia and other strong growing plants to maintain a healthy balance of species.

We’ll also be joined by fellow coop @compost_mentis_coop who’ll be leading a zine/display workshop for our compost toilet, to celebrate some of the beautiful ideas that have gone into the community co-design, and encourage future dreaming of perfect toilets... Many thanks to all who came down the other week to help with the build, it was heart warming and inspiring to feel everyone’s commitment and generosity in bringing the building into being, as we figured it out together and created something simple and functional and beautiful! Big thanks to the Mercer’s Company for supporting us.

This Sunday we’re facilitating a river clean up event to celebrate @thames21 #londonriversweek - and as part of this we’ll be finishing off the toilet with a display board inside to showcase all the beautiful words, drawings and objects created during the co-design process. At last Saturday’s eco gathering we tended to the young apple trees, caring for the community orchard, cutting back the abundant comfrey growth to feed the trees, watering, weeding and trimming, removing the small apples so the trees put all their energy into growing strong branches for the next few years. Next eco gathering is a special one with @compost_mentis_coop, more info to follow in the next week or so… exciting! Thanks to everyone who came 💙👌🌞

We’re back at the Long Wall this Saturday for our monthly eco gathering! We’ll be tending to the new apple trees planted by the Children’s Forest back in March, enjoying and identifying all the spring growth bursting through, talking about our new compost toilet plans, along with the usual litter picking and tea drinking. As some of you know last year four of the apple tr

As some of you know last year four of the apple trees from the community orchard were stolen. Last week we turned this disappointment into a beautiful gift with young people from London’s first @childrensforest.earth who came down to the Long Wall Evology Garden and replaced the stolen trees with new growth!

@saji73 and others from Rangers forest school have been working hard to create a Children’s Forest project in London and we’re honoured to be the first site to host their trees, including a hazel tree raised by them from seed. 🌱🌱🌱
We’re looking forward to welcoming them back to the garden for tending and watering days.

Join us this Saturday at the Long Wall Ecology Garden for our monthly meet up. We’ll sadly be taking down the temporary compost toilet - it was only built to last for a couple of months and its lasted a whole year! But the wind and rain have taken their toll and it’s time for us to recycle it. It's been such an interesting experiment to have it on site, feeding into our on-going work with @compost-mentis to build a permanent compost toilet there, come and join us on Saturday and we can talk more about future plans! We arrived for the eco gathering this morning to find the tool shed had been broken into and strimmer and tools stolen… the beauty of our site is its wild, open and un-surveilled nature, which is why we love it, and of course also what leaves it open to risks such as this. So despite the frustrations we rallied together and fixed the shed, continued on with the compost area and pruning the apple trees, great chats with volunteers, and we were rewarded by a wonderful passer-by called Michael dropping by with a donation in support of the garden. Ebbs and flows….!

We’ll be at the Long Wall Ecology Garden this Saturday for our monthly eco gathering, 11 - 1pm. Last month we nourished the apple trees and the worms with comfrey cuttings and bark chip and continued working on the composting site down at the riverside. It always seems surprising how quickly after new year the feeling of growth returns in the air, with daffodils already showing their shoots, bird song sounding more and more and even a few whispers of blossom appearing on the trees. We wonder how hope is possible when looking at the pain in the world, and yet it also feels undeniable when focusing on life bursting anew all around.
