Surge Cooperative, is a non-profit organisation set up with the primary focus to reanimate Bow Creek with affordable co-operatively run moorings. We are helping to bring historic wharves back into use, nurturing the heritage and biodiversity of the area and building lasting community links on land and water.

This policy outlines what data we collect, how we may use it and how we keep your data safe.

This privacy notice aims to inform you about how we collect and process any information that we collect from you, or that you provide to us. Information we process with your consent

If you are a volunteer or helping us to lead an event then we may collect extra information about you (e.g. references, criminal records checks, details of emergency contacts, medical conditions etc.). This information will be retained for legal reasons, to protect us (including in the event of an insurance or legal claim) and for safeguarding purposes.

We may also collect and process information about your interactions with us, including details about our contacts with you through email, SMS, post, on the phone or in person. This might include the date, time, and method of contact, details about donations you make to us, events or activities that you register for or attend or any request for support. 

We may also collect and record other relevant information you share with us about yourself, such as your interests or your affiliations with other charities, your local CPRE network group, community or campaign groups, your council or planning team.

Technical data includes your internet protocol (IP) address, browser type and version, time zone setting and location, browser plug-in types and versions, operating system and platform and other technology on the devices you use to access this website.

 

The bases on which we process information about you

We only ever use your personal data with your consent, or where it is necessary in order to:

We use personal data for administrative purposes (i.e. to carry on our cooperative and clean-up work). This includes maintaining databases of our volunteers, members and supporters.

This information can be used for a variety of purposes, such as recruiting new supporters, or to identify trends or patterns within our existing supporter base.  This information helps inform our actions and improve our campaigns, products/services and materials and when making funding applications

Surge Coop issues e-newsletters which keep people informed about our activities and involvement in the wider environmental world. There is an option available to subscribe/unsubscribe to this. Several Surge Coop projects also operate their own mailing lists.

Personal identifiers from your browsing activity

Requests by your web browser to our servers for web pages and other content on our website are recorded.

We record information such as your geographical location, your Internet service provider and your IP address. We also record information about the software you are using to browse our website, such as the type of computer or device and the screen resolution.

We use this information in aggregate to assess the popularity of the webpages on our website and how we perform in providing content to you.

If combined with other information we know about you from previous visits, the data possibly could be used to identify you personally, even if you are not signed in to our website.

 

Fundraising

As a cooperative, we rely on donations and support from others to continue our work. From time to time, we may contact members and supporters with fundraising material and communications. This might be about an appeal, a competition we’re running, or to suggest ways you can raise funds, or include ways of making a donation.

As with other marketing communications, we’ll only contact you specifically about fundraising if you’ve opted in to receiving marketing from us (and you can unsubscribe at any time).

We record your request and our reply in order to increase the efficiency of our organisation.

When you contact us by phone, email, or through our website we will add your details to our database (held on a secure server with external back-ups being changed daily. We will never sell your personal details to third parties. You can ask us to remove your details from our database at any time by sending an email to info@surge.coop. In the unlikely event of a breach in our data security we will contact you within 72 hours to let you know what has happened and what we are doing in response.

This website is hosted on Debian GNU/Linux servers by Webarchitects Co-operative, 68a John Street, Sheffield, S2 4QU, UK.

This site is set to collect web usage statistics via private Matamo servers and in addition via Apache web server log files, the Apache log files are kept for 28 days and are only automatically analysed for aggregrated site bandwidth usage.

Retention period for personal data

Except as otherwise mentioned in this privacy notice, we keep your personal information only for as long as required by us:

• to provide you with the services you have requested;
• to comply with other law, including for the period demanded by our tax authorities;
• to support a claim or defence in court.
